The Gymnasium

Gymnasium Na Vítězné pláni is one of the traditional gymnasiums of our city and it was established by the Municipality. The school was founded in 1968. The capacity of our school is 730 students; there are 35 classrooms in the building, including some professionally equipped offices and laboratories. The Gymnasium is a secondary education institution, which emphasises teaching of foreign languages as well as the cooperation with Universities, such as the faculty of Medicine, the faculty of Science and faculty of Arts of Charles University.

The school offers compulsory English language courses for all grades, including the opportunity to take an exam for international language certificates FCE, CEA. It is also our students’ duty to attend a second foreign language class, such as French or Spanish, and then they can opt to follow any of the offered language seminars, such as Russian, Latin or Greek lessons. We also have a specialised class with intense studies of German - the DSD program.

Gymnasium Na Vítězné pláni follows the latest trends of inclusion and integration in its educational concept - we are working on the integration of students with special needs, social disabilities or multicultural backgrounds. We make the most to ensure that our students have space to develop in a safe environment. While studying at our gymnasium, students may participate in some of the many trips abroad (France, Greece, Italy, Sweden) and exchange programmes (Greece, England, Germany). The School is actively involved in European educational projects and international cooperation Erasmus + KA2 and KA1 projects.

The school is located near the historical hill of Prague, Vyšehrad- the place, where the oldest part of Prague’s history took place. It is also easily accessible by public transportation (red line metro, tram or bus).

We are an open, communicative and friendly school. Our students like to keep in touch with us and are proude to graduate from our school.

The garant of the lessons are Mgr. Andronika Čolasová and Andromeda Ludmila Liberiou.

The Teacher

Andromeda

Γεια σας! Hello everyone!

My name is Andromeda and I am a teacher of Greek based in Prague, born and raised in Athens. I am 27 years old, with studies in Greek Philology and Classical Archaeology at Charles University. I moved to Czech Republic on the search of my Czech roots and since then I am in love with the idea of introducing Greek culture to foreigners and bridging my two home countries.

I have been a passionate teacher of Greek as a foreign language for our students at the gymnasium since 2016, the beginning of Greek at GVP and I am the founder of the digital language project Řečtina s Andromedou. Besides that I have been helping our trainees from Greece with their orientation in the Czech community and guiding them in becoming teachers of Greek as a foreign language, always adapting to a sudent-centered approach. On top of that I enjoy working on various educational and cultural Erasmus+ projects dealing with archaeology, Greek, Czech and European culture (e.g. The Love of Reading, Roman Traces in Eu, Refugees and more).

My main goal is to teach Greek using games, in a cognitively natural way, while making sure to engage all senses. I am trying to help my students absorb new knowledge in an intuitive way and prepare them for real life situations, which they will encounter while travelling in Greece. Studying Greek with me is a cultural experience, our Greek lessons are not just the studies of language, but a lifestyle of adventurers, who love exploring new traditions, lands and cultures. Greek language will be our compass on this journey!

Let the adventure begin and apply for your Greek lessons!
